When the Dot NET generic extension was first introduced in 1985, along with the first domains on the Internet, it was meant to be used by Internet Service Providers or infrastructure companies. Taking into account that there were no particular prerequisites about the usage of the TLD, though, .NET domains were purchased and used for diverse purposes and by a large number of people. This TLD is a great substitution for .COM, especially if the desired domain with the latter domain extension is not free for registration.
